Bruce, Bruce, Bruce!
Who doesn’t love chocolate cake?? I’m always call Bruce for my giant mouthfuls of cake!
My Instagram followers gave me the task to bake a chocolate cake this month and as the days have slipped by, I decided today was the day.
Whilst everyone was out enjoying the snow, I stayed in baking away and keeping my knees in the right place.
Cakes haven’t been my favourite thing to bake. I don’t know if it’s because I have such high standards or I haven’t had much luck, but today I decided to just give it my best shot. I found a recipe in olive magazine which was called “the ultimate chocolate fudge cake” so obviously that was the one to try. I enjoyed the process of melting the chocolate into a smooth, glossy consistency and I found it quite fun mixing the wet and dry ingredients together by hand rather than resorting to my mixer. It seemed to bake quite well and after leaving it to cool, (and having a quick Sunday nap) I began to prepare the buttercream. Without any proper utensils to apply the buttercream to the cake, I think I did quite a good job at smoothing down the edges despite how quickly it seemed to set.
TIP I have now been told if I warm up a pallet knife (or butter knife in my case) in boiling water and dry off, this will help apply the buttercream if it starts to harden and set.
Overall I am super happy with my first chocolate cake attempt, a few less minutes in the oven and a proper pallet knife to apply the buttercream and I will have a perfect cake 🤎
