I hope you are all having a egg-cellent weekend full of family, happiness and of course chocolate! 


I love hot cross buns, who doesn’t? My only critique would be that they are never big enough and I always want more than one!

Having finally purchased normal fast action yeast sachets, I have been desperate to try it out so hot cross buns for Easter felt like the perfect excuse.



I’m not going to lie, the first round of proving wasn’t great, it ‘proved’ very hard to find a warm spot in my very cold house but after relocating a number of times I found the spot! 

The last two rounds of proving were much more successful but I hoped it wasn’t too late. 


Did you know Apple was in hot cross buns? It really didn’t feel right chopping the apple up as I’ve never noticed that taste but I did as the recipe said. I found it really hard to distribute the fruits into the dough, especially when separating into individual buns as the fruit kept falling out but persistence always pays off.




Before reading the recipe I had no idea how the cross was made or why it didn’t brown during baking and the flour and water combination was surprising easy but note to self, try making the paste abit thicker and don’t use such a big pipping nozzle as that results in giant crosses that look slightly dodgy. 

Overall, once toasted and smothered in  butter, these hot cross buns were super yummy! Paired with a cup of coffee and a beautiful sunny Easter Sunday, I am very pleased ๐ŸคŽ
