Sunday Bunday

I have to honest, this was my least favourite bake off challenge.

  1. I had to wait for my steamer to arrive. The steamer that I had no idea how to use.
  2. The recipes from the show really didn’t tickle my fancy and all the other recipes online had weird ingredients I just couldn’t be bothered to buy.
  3. Having never eaten a steamed bun, I didn’t have a scooby how the dough should feel or taste.

However, like a true pro, I put all my fears and doubts aside and gave it a bloody good go.

The dough was pretty easy to make as it barely had any ingredients so that was a good start. Trying to find a warm space for my dough to prove in my very cold house proved to be very difficult (pun time). It sat there next to me proving away whilst I watched a Sean Connery film, RIP Sean.

For the first time, I went rogue with the filling and just made it up. It was a curried mince filling which after a small incident with the salt turned out ok. After watching a number of YouTube videos about how to fill these buns and pleat the seal, mine were mediocre to say the least.

I stood by the steamer very impatiently waiting to see the final result and I’m glad to say the buns steamed well and were a good size. I definitely won’t be making these again in a rush but I am so proud to have tried something completely out of my comfort zone 🤎
