A loaf changing experience
BREAD WEEK!!! I was super excited for bread week hence the incredibly funny pun (thank you, thank you very much)
I’ve talked about enjoying baking bread in my previous posts as it amazes me that there are so little ingredients involved in making something so versatile.
I opted for soda bread from bake off this week as I wanted to try something cheesy and my god was it cheesy! Cheese and bacon was the chosen combination, by far my favourite flavours and the thought of that baked into delicious bread made my mouth water.
It felt really strange to combine all the ingredients and then be told not to touch or knead it- felt like I was breaking the bread baking code. But I did as I was told and put it on the floured tray and scored a giant cross on the top. During the bake, I loved watching it become golden brown but also seeing the specs of bacon and cheese breaking through the crispy crust.
I felt it could have done with a few minutes extra in the oven as it was slightly under baked and dense but I happily sacrificed those remaining minutes of cooking time to be able to enjoy the taste of warm bread smothered in butter.
The idea was to take the whole loaf on our little staycation to Cornwall, but the reality is less than half made it on the journey 🤎.
