Keep calm and picnic on...part 1

It’s bank holiday weekend which means lots of food and drink!!

We have been invited to a family BBQ and I have also mentioned to some friends about having a picnic whilst watching some cricket (less of the watching more of the eating).

Andy has been nagging me for ages about making some sausages rolls. A colleague of his has shared a recipe and also shared some really yummy samples which I was slightly nervous I wouldn’t be able to match but a picnic felt like the ideal time to give it ago.

First things first, I need to work on my knife skills as I think my interpretation of “finely chopped” onions and apples is nothing to be desired! I also have to own up that I didn’t make the pastry which for a baking blog is pretty shameful 😳. This is top of my list and I will definitely been trying soon... just need to build up the courage. It was fun putting the sausage rolls together with Andy being a very helpful sous chef! They turn out a lovely golden brown but I definitely found it hard to see if the pastry was cooked all the way through. The recipe contained hoisin sauce which did add some sweetness however it was a very subtle taste so next time I would like to up the quantity. The sausage rolls look yummy and are all packed up ready for further judgment tomorrow!

I also baked more goodies so keep an eye out for part 2 🤎

Pastry is always a hard one to master as there’s so many types.. however once you’ve done it, it comes naturally and you pick up skills quickly. These look amazing and I cannot wait to try one!
